MARGINAL - Iris sibirica 3L
Siberian flag. Attractive, free flowering blue with a white and yellow throat. Despite its name, this plant is a native of Europe, not Siberia. After foliage has died back in Autumn cut back to just above the water surface. If trimming left until spring take care not to damage emerging shoots.
MARGINAL - Lobelia fulgens 'Queen Victoria' 1L
Red leaved lobelia. The wonderful purplish-red foliage contrasts excellently with the brilliant red flowers. Little maintenance is required. Trim to tidy but leave foliage to die back naturally to encourage winter bud formation.
MARGINAL - Pontederia cordata 3L
Pickerel weed. Heart-shaped green leaves with clusters of blue flowers borne on a spike. A tall late flowering structural plant. It is free flowering and slowly grows into a large clump. Little maintenance is required. Trim just above the water surface after foliage has died back in Autumn to tidy.
MARGINAL - Scirpus cernuus 3L
Fibre optic plant. This attractive evergreen has an apt common name. The glossy thread-like leaves have minute white flower spikes on the tips of each leaf. Evergreen. Trim in early spring to encourage new growth.
MARGINAL - Typha minima 3L
Miniature bullrush, Miniature reedmace. A miniature version, this has delicate round milk chocolate coloured brown seed heads and is ideal for small ponds. Attractive seed heads may be left all winter if desired but best cleared if they fall into the water. Cut back foliage before spring growth starts.
